Why? We want to import coffee that has been respectably grown under conditions that are fair to people and nature. That's why we work with verified and certified companies that support small growers, as well as with the farmers themselves.
We try to bring to people here how diverse coffee can be. To offer a view of the journey of the coffee bean from the plantation to the cup. Let them taste bitter and fruity, with and without milk, in strange (but great) combinations and in different ways. Just to show you the world of specialty coffee. Because we know very well that there is no way back from it to the instant one.

WE ROAST OUR WAY.

The history of our friendship began to be written in the university dormitory, where we immediately fell in love. It was during our studies that two of us – Peter and Pavel Haninec – visited Nicaragua for the first time. In addition to planned work and study, we traveled and got to know the beauty and life of this Central American country. One such trip was to the mountainous area on the border of Jinotega and Matagalpa districts. It's a really beautiful place with an old hacienda with a lake and an evergreen forest above the plantation. This is where we first thought of importing and roasting coffee.
And it was from there, from the Selva Negra plantation, that we brought our first coffee.
And it's really ours, because you won't find it anywhere else in Europe.

WE MAKE PEOPLE HAPPY.

After returning from Nicaragua, we established a coffee roastera in Brno in September 2017. And we've been roasting specialty coffee ever since. What started as a family project quickly grew into a company with 25 employees - our coffee band.
In the roastery, we steadily offer over 10 coffees from all over the world. Most of them long-termly, in addition we always have a few special, limited coffees and coffee blends.
Coffees are of different varieties, types of processing and taste profiles. You can choose, whether you prefer bitter, nutty-chocolate coffees prepared for espresso, or you prefer lighter, fruitier notes on the filter. The coffee you will find here is almost exclusively Arabica. We only use Robusta in some blends for more expressive bitterness.

Why is MOTMOT our name?

Motmot is a bird that lives only in Nicaragua and the surrounding countries. It has a very distinctive appearance, varied coloring, turquoise eyebrows and unique tail fins... and Nicaraguans consider it their national symbol. Since the story of our roastery began years ago on a plantation in Nicaragua, we decided to name ourselves after it.

WE ENJOY COFFEE

We not only like to drink coffee and prepare it ourselves at home, but we also really like to talk about it. Because we want to convey what we live by, we put the roaster machine in the middle of the roastery. We can chat with people and organize Experiential roasting with tastings or coffee preparation courses.
All this is a proof of what we have observed since the beginning: coffee brings people together. And that is great.
